Wedding cake Ideas and wedding cake designs.
For those of you who know me, you’ll be fully aware I’m a big fan of cake and have eaten my fair share. Give me a cup of coffee to go with it and I will do anything for you but just don’t put fruit in it as raisins are trying to be chocolate chips in disguise. If I find fruit in my cake rather than chocolate it’s enough to ruin my day.
People are fussy about cake and often have many wedding cake ideas, see above, so not only do you have to think about the outside of the wedding cake, what it looks like, does it fit with my theme, do the colours blend without thinking but also will everyone like my flavour choice, and there are so many out there. Chocolate cake, which happens to be my favourite, not sure if I told you that, fruit, which is not, lemon, rose, carrot, vanilla and the list goes on.
What a minefield, but it does make for a fun day tasting wedding cakes when you are choosing. When it comes to the outside of the cake there are just so many trends around at the moment and trying to decide on what you like and what will work is just one more thing to stress out about on the long list of wedding checklist to-do’s, so here is a quick guide to help you out.
Wedding Cake Ideas
There are many different traditional cakes from around the world that you may want to consider if there is a particular country that means something to you both, perhaps you met or got engaged there or maybe you or your family originate from there.
Ombre cakes have been around for a while and look impressive. They are a lovely way of bringing in your colour theme, they can be bold and quirky or subtle and traditional. They may be ombre just on the outside or it can run all the way through. A nice little surprise for your guests.
Marble effect cakes can also bring your colour to the desert table. They look very impressive and sometimes, too good to eat! I have seen them done really well with gold leaf running through them, very pretty. Sometimes they don’t even look like cake.
I am a big fan of all things that sparkle so cakes with sparkles on them and the trend of Metallic cakes are totally my thing and if its chocolate in the middle, I’m sold! When thinking about metallics in the past people have thought the traditional gold and silver but 2016 is changing this. Rose gold and copper being this year’s colours and I love them!
I have seen over the past year some stunning geometric 3D affairs. They are visually striking and really stand out. They become a talking point at the dinner table and can really draw some attention when done right.
I do love a naked cake. My seven year old thinks this is hilarious, they are popular and moving into 2016 will continue to be a big trend. They look beautiful using flowers to bring together your theme. Just be mindful they can melt in hot weather!
If you don’t have a sweet tooth, first of all, what’s wrong with you?! But if that is the case, a Cheese tower cake covered with figs and grapes may just be the cake for you. Pies are also featuring in more and more weddings, apple, cherry or pork.
Maybe you want the trend of something small and individual. This trend continues into 2016, whether it be cupcakes, this has been around for a while, cake pops which were all the rage a couple of years ago but are still very popular, macaroons which can be very colourful and taste amazing or even doughnuts!
If you do want to please your fussy guests or you can’t decide then why not go for a desert table? Then there’s something for everyone just remember to make sure there is something big enough in the centre for when it comes to cutting the cake!
