Top tips to make sure you enjoy your wedding day
Getting married can be one of the most stressful things you will do. In the weeks before the day there will be lists, frantic emails and sleepless nights but when your day arrives, you need to try and relax, this is the day you have been waiting for, its finally here! Here are some top tips to make sure you enjoy your wedding day.
Before your wedding day
Spray tan in advance! It appears we don’t get much sun in this country. So rather than looking pasty and pale you may choose to get a spray tan. First of all, go with someone you know does it well, no one wants to see streaks and try not to do a Ross! But importantly make sure you give your tan time to settle down. The last thing any bride wants is for her tan to rub off on her dress
Don’t try new products. Before your wedding day is probably not the time to try a new skin care routine. Stick to what you know, make sure you use a good eye cream and get some sleep, or at least try! Avoid too much of what can dull your skin such as coffee and alcohol. Drink plenty of water to re-hydrate.
Hire people you want to work with. When planning your wedding you need to feel confident on your day so make sure you hire people who you feel comfortable with and who you feel will do their best for you. ‘It will do’ isn’t right and if you have any niggling doubts, listen to them. If you don’t you will spend the morning of your wedding worrying about it and it just isn’t worth it. There are plenty of great suppliers out there so take the time to find them. It will be worth it in the end.
Get help. You want to enjoy your wedding day and part of that could be planning it. Many people don’t like the idea of giving over the planning of their day to a wedding planner and love the idea of planning their wedding themselves, but as the weeks go by and the day gets closer, why not consider getting in a planner to help you with those last minute touches. The things you have forgotten about, the things you need to run around sorting, or even just to put your mind at rest to know that everything is taken care of. Having someone who will be there on the day to make sure everything is where it needs to be will allow you to relax and enjoy your morning getting ready.
Delegate. You have a bridal party for a reason. They are not just there to look pretty for your photos! Give them jobs to do. They can run around, pick up flowers and favours, make sure the tables are how they need to be, guests know where to be etc. and make sure everyone knows ‘the plan’! Who does what and when. Where do they need to be and at what time.
Don’t worry about things that haven’t happened. One of the biggest things we worry about are the what ‘if’s’. What if I fall, what if the cake doesn’t arrive, what if… What if none of that happens and the day goes amazingly? Try not to get hung up on things and give yourself extra things to think about.
Make sure you break in your shoes. You will be standing up or dancing for a lot of the day so make sure your shoes aren’t something else to worry about. Break them in beforehand and make sure you take something that you can change into on the dance floor.
Be realistic, there will be issues along the way. The average wedding takes between 250 and 300 hours to plan. Within all of that time it isn’t realistic to think that nothing at all will go wrong. Take a step back, breathe and ask for help. There isn’t anything that can’t be put right.
Enjoy your wedding day
Eat breakfast. Make sure you eat something. Your wedding day will be a long day and you will spend most of it on your feet. Make sure that you eat something and if you can’t, pop a snack in your bag for later. You’ll be glad of it!
Think about getting ready. When you are having your hair and make up done, think about what you are wearing, you don’t want to have to take your top off over your hair so wear something with buttons, if your dress is short, don’t get ready in socks, make sure you have straws so you don’t ruin your lipstick when you drink. Plan ahead.
Give yourself plenty of time to get ready. You don’t want to spend the time before you set off to your venue rushing around and getting a dab on! Give yourself time to take five before you leave the room so you arrive calm and collected.
Slow down. It’s important that you enjoy your wedding day so make sure you take time during your day to slow down. Most people, me included, don’t really remember their wedding day. You spend so much time going from one thing to another, chatting to people you haven’t seen in a long time. The whole day is a whirlwind.
Take some time for yourself. Take five with your new husband or wife. Step away from the mayhem and breathe. Take a walk in between the ceremony and the reception, just the two of you. Soak up the atmosphere and take time to remember how amazing this all is. Enjoy your wedding day together.
Plan for the unexpected. Make sure you have an emergency kit that contains things you may need, fingers crossed you won’t have to open it!
No matter what happens, try and stay calm and enjoy yourself. Your wedding day is just one chapter in your fairytail story.
