Congratulations! You’re getting engaged!
Asking someone to marry you is one of the most important and possibly daunting things you may ever do. The proposal and the way you do it becomes part of your fairytail. So many people will ask ‘how did it happen?’ There are so many amazing perfect proposal stories out there, but finding your perfect proposal may not be as easy as you think and people can put themselves under a lot of pressure.
The Perfect Proposal
The most perfect story I ever read was on Pinterest via Susan Lines Photography and is the story of Megan and John. Megan had a hunch that John was going to propose but still wanted there to be an element of surprise. He organised a scavenger hunt, invited her friends and family to join her on the way, had a limo drive her round, got her nails done (what man thinks of that?!) he sent her dress shopping and for lunch and through it all, a photographer captured it. Whenever I read their amazing story, it still brings a tear to my eye.
Of all the proposal stories I have heard, I have never heard of a story where the proposer has gone to this much effort. I have heard some amazing stories of proposals in New York, the top of the Eiffel Tower, where they had their first date. I have also heard some stories that are not so great including one of food poisoning. My own proposal wasn’t one of dreams, there was no ring, he didn’t get down on one knee and he hadn’t asked my Dad, but it was a complete surprise. I had known my then boyfriend for quite some time and he was always very adamant that he would never ever get married. All of his friends were married and most had children but not him. So when he proposed whilst we were in bed both of us with a hangover watching the Hollyoaks omnibus, one, it was a complete surprise and two, it was a good job there wasn’t a photographer on hand, I mean my hair! What a mess. But for us it was perfect. Perhaps he could have taken me somewhere other than the local pub afterwards!
There is lots of advice out there to help plan the perfect proposal such as, selecting the right location, somewhere that means something to you both, a place you have always wanted to visit, somewhere romantic and proposal worthy. Proposing on a special day, your anniversary, Valentine’s Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve. Advice on the internet always says to get down on one knee, there is advice about having a ring, buying the ring…the list goes on and can be a little overwhelming to be honest. There is also a lot of advice on how to ask and what to say. Personally I think that the best piece of advice I would ever be able to give is, speak from the heart.
Proposal photo shoot
Having a photoshoot after the proposal to share with your family and friends is quite common place now and there are many amazing photographers who do this but capturing the engagement with a photographer hidden in the wings is something that is slowly becoming more popular over here after starting in America and is something that Jon Flint and I were discussing over coffee last week. Imagine you have planned the perfect proposal, it comes as a complete surprise and rather than being like other newly engaged couples and posting photos of the ring on social media with the caption, I said yes, you are able to post the whole magical moment for people to see. Something you can look back on in future years. The photos being part of your 25th wedding anniversary party. But how about if you had someone to help you out with the whole thing?
Rebecca Wilkie Proposal Planning
Perhaps you already have an idea in your head of how it will happen and just need someone to talk things through with or need ideas of where to pop the question. How about having someone to just run ideas past, or someone to suggest venues? Perhaps you know what you want to say, but don’t know how to do it and need someone to help you with ideas, planning and execution.
With the proposal planning service I can help you by suggesting ideas for you, venues, locations which you can then run with or I can help with the full proposal. Working with you to come up with the perfect proposal, sourcing the venue, booking any suppliers, such as a photographer, planning your transport and arranging somewhere for you to stay if you need it, coordinating with anyone who you would like to be there, the list goes on…whatever you need from me, I’m there for you so why not check out my services.
