A few weeks ago I launched my wedding kickstarter over on YouTube. I hope that you are finding this series useful.
When you get engaged it can be so hard to know how to start planning a wedding. Suppliers change, trends change, budgets are different so there may not be anyone around you who can help you to understand how to start planning a wedding.
Where to start when planning your wedding
My six step wedding planning kickstarter starts at the very beginning – saying yes! When you first get engaged, this is where the whole process starts. My first stage is just enjoy…planning a wedding can be time consuming, can be stressful and can be costly. I come across a lot of couples who are so desperate to start planning their wedding and it feels a real rush to the altar and then they miss out on the joy of actually having a fiance. So my first step on planning your wedding, is don’t.
Setting a budget
As part of my wedding kickstarter I have talked all about budgets and I wanted to share with you the link I mentioned. The gorgous Anna from Bride and Glory wrote the perfect blog post. She goes into a lot of detail, not just about how much you might expect to spend on your wedding, but also the reasons why wedding suppliers charge what they charge.
Wedding budgets differ wildly from one wedding to the next and the latest statistics show that the amount people are spending on their wedding is reducing. Many people are looking to travel, set up home, plan for children in their future and don’t feel as though they can justify a wedding running into the tens of thousands so when setting your budget, it is so so important that you spend your money where you priorities lie.
What do you want?
You need to make decisions on what you like and don’t like. The rise of websites like Pinterest can be a blessing and a curse. There is so much choice out there, how do you narrow it down? And once you have narrowed it down, how do you decide what to spend and where? It really is a minefield.
And then we come to choosing a wedding venue. A venue can dictate the number of guests, the theme and the budget. With the largest part of your budget usually being dictated by the venue and associated caterer, it is a really important part of the planning and important to get right.
