So you have made the decision to hire a wedding planner. Good for you, we can be a god send! The next step is finding the right one. Because your wedding planner will be with you throughout the whole process of planning your wedding it is important that you hire someone who is professional and organised, but someone who gets you and makes you feel at ease as you could be in each other’s lives for well over a year. Let’s take a look at the five questions to ask your wedding planner.
So when you have made your shortlist and arranged an interview, what are the main questions you should be asking?
Five questions to ask your wedding planner.
01. Is your preferred wedding planner available?
First of all, you need to establish that your chosen planner is available on the date that you want to get married. Suppliers, including wedding planners get booked up well in advance so you may have to be flexible with your dates so you can work with someone you really love. If they aren’t free and you can’t be flexible a good wedding planner will know other amazing planners and wedding coordinators who they will be able to recommend to you.
02. Does your wedding planner offer the services you require?
Secondly you need to know what service they offer and what sort of service do you require. Most wedding planners offer a variety of services from a full planning service down to on the day support, but perhaps you want something in-between. Are they flexible in the services they offer so they can match what you are wanting from them?
A good planner will be able to listen to your needs to put together a proposal and quote to match based on your needs. Their service should be bespoke to you and meet your requirements, no one else’s.
03. How will your wedding planner communicate?
How do they keep in touch with their clients? It is important that they are able to put your mind at ease and that you know they have everything in hand and it is important they communicate with you how you want them to and as often as you need them to.
This is something that you should discuss when you first meet and should be included in the proposal they write for you. An email once a month is fine for some but others will because it isn’t enough. However, half a dozen phone calls daily kind of defeats the object of hiring a planner in the first place!
04. Does your wedding planner have a good team?
Do they work alone or as part of a team? A wedding planner will coordinate your amazing day making sure that the venue is decorated as you envisage it, the suppliers all turn up on time and are able to deal with anything that crops up.
When having photos taken or going outside for fireworks, coordinating 500 guests alone isn’t easy and can be like herding cats and can be a fairly daunting and difficult task so it may be important that your planner has assistance on the day to ensure that not only your suppliers are where they need to be, but also so are the guests.
Although some planners may be able to do this with ease. Before Christmas I took my three children, two nieces and nephew to Meadowhall. The only place my hair wasn’t stood on end was in the lift because no one could get away. Herding Cats! Give me 500 wedding guests any day!
If your wedding is more intimate then an assistant won’t be needed but make sure you are comfortable.
05. Does your wedding planner share your vision?
Can you see my vision? Some brides have been dreaming about their wedding day since they were little girls and in order for it to be perfect as you have envisaged your wedding planner needs to be able to see what you see and achieve what you want to achieve in a way you want to do it.
They need to communicate clearly and make sure they are able to communicate your vision to others. Do they understand your budget? A good wedding planner will not only be able to make sure you stick within budget but should also be able to help you save money.
Interviewing wedding planners will help you a lot but sometimes just looking at their website and social media will tell you straight away if they are right for you and if you’re still not sure, go with the one you want by your side!
