2017 Wedding Dress Trends
Good morning wonderful blog readers. What a lovely day, I don’t mean weather wise. To be honest the weather could be doing anything when you read this. It’s the UK after all and this week we had rain, snow, hail, wind and glorious sunshine in one day. Some of us even had thunder. Really mother nature? Sort it out. As for a lovely day, I mean it’s the Friday before bank holiday! For me that means spending the weekend watching the Tour de Yorkshire go through my village, walking around the scarecrow festival and finishing my weekend off at the beer festival. Luckily my Mom is coming over so she can have the kids. Yay! Anyway for those of us in the wedding industry spring means bridal fashion week. New York ended last week and with Barcelona coming to an end today, what are the must have Spring 2017 wedding dress trends?
2017 Wedding Dress Trends from New York
I love New York, for me it is the fashion capital so whether it is bridal wear, high end wear or every day wear, New York fashion weeks are the best weeks in the year. I love getting that insight in to next year and knowing what will be hitting the high street. There were so many different trends that really stuck out for me and with so many amazing trends where do we start?
Coloured Wedding Dresses
I love the move away from the traditional white and ivory, although don’t worry, there was still plenty of it about. I love coloured weddings dresses and stars seem to do it well. Sarah Jessica Parker wore black, Gwen Stefani pink, Dita Von Teese purple, Adriana De Moura of Real Housewives fame wore grey and I am totally in love with her dress. Elizabeth Taylor was one of the first to kick off the trend when she wore yellow to marry Richard Burton in 1964 #amazinglovestory.
So for the spring 2017 wedding dress trends what did we see? There were pastels from the likes of Houghton and Jenny Packham which were stunning. Very soft and feminine and carrying on with the blush pink trend this year. It’s not going away anytime soon.
We also saw bolder colours in the form of darker ombre pinks from Christian Siriano for Kleinfeld which I absolutely loved, a full skirted ball gown with pockets, stunning. Then we saw black courtesy of Naeem Khan, the designer recently worn by Kate Middleton. His collection was by far my favorite coming out of New York this year.
Capes and Caplets
Capes have been a round for a while now. My sister has a stunning cape from Ted Baker and I am so jealous, but capes were a big when it came to spring 2017 wedding dress trends. They can negate the need for a veil but also, thinking about our amazing weather this spring, could be quite useful! We saw capes and feminine caplets from wedding dress royalty Vera Wang and Monique Lhuillier as well as from Romona Keveza, Lela Rose and Temperley London. This from Galia Lahav photographed by Aki Akiwumi is amazing!
Wow is all I can say!
Another trend front and center were trousers and jumpsuits. For those who would rather not wear dresses, trousers are most definitely one of the srping 2017 wedding dress trends. We saw amazing designs with stunning veils and amazing trains from Lakum, Lela Rose, Christian Siriano, Carolina Herrera and my favorite from Monique Lhuillier. I wasn’t sure about trousers when I heard about the trend but I am loving this.
Totally crushing. The colour, the cut, the train, what isn’t to love?! I never imagined myself getting married in a jumpsuit but I would so wear this.
We have seen this trend with cakes but we were also seeing it on the catwalk in New York ready for 2017. 3D flowers were everywhere, on bodices, skirts and veils and they gave dresses (and jumpsuits) a real pop. The look was seen on the runways of Angel Sanchez, Lazaro, Marchesa and Mira Zwillinger. As well as flowers and crystals, we also saw feathers from the likes of Naeem Khan and Christian Siriano for Kleinfeld.

Spring 2017 Wedding Dress Trends go Sexy
The other trends we were seeing lots of were rather racy. Plunging necklines, cheeky cut outs, barely there dresses and underwear as wedding wear. Lazaro were really going for the plunging necklines with most of their dresses. Marchesa had some stunning sexy necklines with Mira Zwillinger showing some stunning barely there not suitable for church looks. With my favorite, Naeem Khan hitting all the trends this season and doing it very well.
Traditional Wedding dresses
There were still plenty of traditional wedding dresses with stunning veils and trains being a big spring 2017 trend. Perfect for those photos walking down the aisle and for veils blowing in the wind. With looks coming from Oscar de la Renta, Monique Lhuillier, Temperley London, Angel Sanchez and Vera Wang. They were romantic and dramatic, adorned with swarovski crystals, flowers, lace, beads and they were stunning.

So what was my favorite? I may have already mentioned my love affair with Naeem Khan but did he design my overall favorite dress? I did love everything he did, but I also love love love Marchesa. Very feminine with stunning detail. But, I think my absolute favorite look is the pink ombre from Christian Siriano for Kleinfeld.
